Of the Moment
Recently I was listening to a guided meditation, led by Dharma teacher and co-founder of The Lotus Institute, Larry Ward. We were being given the familiar prompt to imagine our thoughts as clouds, when Mr. Ward said:
"Imagine them as clouds, floating across the blue sky.
Thoughts are ok. Just let them pass by like a cloud.
Or if there is a storm in your mind, just wait it out, until the storm is over."
This imagery resonated deeply with me and "Through the Storm" was born. I wanted to create a series of paintings that would serve as a reminder that, although sometimes our thoughts come in a barrage, not simply floating by in a blue sky, it is ok still to observe the tumult and to remember that the storm always passes.
The paintings in this collection celebrate the natural beauty and awe of a storm, while also encouraging a sense of hope and calm as a reminder that even the most forbidding storm systems eventually pass.
