Innocence, Devotion, Bravery, Soothing Presence
Watercolor and pen on watercolor paper with torn edges.
7.5 x 5.5 in.
Inspired by plant symbolism, in this piece I wanted to make sure I chose the flora intentionally. Daisies represent innocence. Heliotrope represents devotion. Oak leaves are said to symbolize bravery. And petunias, here a wild petunia, are where it gets complicated. I chose them for symbolizing soothing presence, or a desire to be near someone who calms and comforts you. However, they also can symbolize resentment or hot anger. Finally, somehow, they can also represent the refusal to give up hope. To me, ultimately, this combination of meanings was everything. I wanted the flowers, and leaves, to represent what I think so many seek in times of difficulty.
Be strong and have courage.
